Pencils, pens - no that's stationery.
This my friend is way more scary.
It happens when your life starts slowing.
You stand still and watch others growing.
You can see where their life is going.
You can't beathe, or think straight.
You're still learning from your mistakes.
How do they know which route to take?
When I've got so many mistakes left to make.
They get their man, their mortgage, their moggy.
They buy a cook book and take up jogging.
They're saving for a mortgage, so money is tight.
They're doing up the house, so money is tight.
They're saving for the wedding, so money is tight.
There's a baby on the way, yer thats rig
Lily played 'he loves me - he loves me not'
With the single red rose he had bought.
Weeks had passed and the flowers had stopped.
One by one the drooping petals had dropped.
It seemed like the perfect time to play the game,
As only one lonely petal remained.
"He loves me."
She pulled the petal and that was that.
Lily knew that he'd be back.
Sometimes I think you know me so well,
And other times not at all.
Your initials next to mine,
Chalked up on the garden wall.
The rain will wash the chalk off.
It's just a matter of time.
But all that matters right now,
Is the space between your eyes and mine.
I'm not asking you to remember my best friends birthday.
I'm not asking you to remember mine.
I'm just wishing you wouldn't forget the little things,
I say from time to time.
We could talk on the phone for an hour each night,
About things that mattered to me,
My regrets, my hopes, my fears and ambitions,
In five years where I'd like to be.
We could talk on the phone for an hour each night,
About things that mattered to you,
Your regrets, your hopes, your fears and ambitions,
And find that we both shared a few.
It's a comfort to know someone feels how you're feeling,
And I'd hang up the phone with a smile.
But it hurts me to know
Lovely lorries, long lorries,
Lorries are for me.
Up and down the motorways,
They will always be.
Big lorries, little lorries,
Even in between.
There is not a single lorry,
I have never seen.
Lorries carry cargo,
Even frozen food.
I would like a ride in one,
I'm always in the mood.
You see them at the supermarket,
Stacking up their load.
I'm allowed one when I'm older,
When the car is sold.
The way you bite your nails,
It causes my to skin crawl.
Your annoying little habits,
They make me climb the walls.
Your arrogant remarks,
And 'oh so funny' jokes.
The smile of satisfaction,
At the anger they invoke.
The cascading sound of memories,
That you shrug off with ease.
With your empty lies and hollow words of
"It wasn't meant to be"
But I'll grit my teeth and smile,
I'll keep on pushing through,
I couldn't back down anyway,
'Cause I'm still in love with you.

Tom Elliotts Birthday in
hey. you posted a comment on my page aaaaaages ago (nov 05) but ive only just logged in (1st time in way over a year) so just to say sorry for being so rude and ignoring, thank you for the comment (really cheered me up!)... and its even nicer cause i read your poems and theyre really really good (you manage to rhyme without it sounding cloying, and im still stuck in the adolescent phase of NO RHYMES! - made me think i ought to grow up a bit!)
anyway, yeah, cheers! and ill be logging in more regularly from now on!
Tx
cloying=cheesy but a bit more over sweet
oh and are you still trying to kick start the hudds gig scene? im not livin there anymore (but miss it) but while i was there i think i saw a total of one band in four years, and it was a lecturer's jazz trio, in the blob shop (was a bit awful...), so i think it needs a good kick. im in the process of kicking my band up the arse, so looking for gigs (although not particularly immediately) and also trying to start an indie label (got a bunch of mates in other local bands, so figure give it a go) sooooooo if you are still involved in owt or just have some tips for good gigs by smallish bands, let me know! cheers, Tx
